Volunteer Spotlight
Terry Mendenhall
"People bring us wonderful things," said Terry Mendenhall, RSVP volunteer. "I never thought it was more than people’s junk, but it’s not. They bring us beautiful things!"
Terry has been volunteering for RSVP of Delaware County since 2002 and with Surrey Services for Seniors in Broomall, since 2006. She also volunteers at Nana's Attic Thrift Shop in Lawrence Park (down the street from Surrey) and heard that Surrey Services was opening a shop and she wanted to help.
Terry has been with Surrey since the start of the Thrift Shop, when it was just a couple tables in the conference room. She helps with garage sales and flea markets – any time Surrey's selling something, Terry's helping out. She prices items that are brought into the shop to be sold – she has an eye for valuable items and those things that sell well in resale shops. "We have gorgeous things, we just aren’t as visible as Nana’s Attic," said Terry. "We need to get people to come in."
When Surrey Services moved to a larger location at 455 Park Way, Terry offered helpful suggestions for the layout and processing of donations. "She put ads on Craig’s List for us. She’s very good with customers and she’s a tireless worker – Every Saturday she’s in the shop for 5 hours," said Susanne Werner, Executive Director of Surrey Service for Seniors.
"Volunteering is a part of my life," said Terri. "I enjoy meeting the people who donate and the people who buy."
"She’s a great ambassador for Surrey, always telling others about our services and programs, and
when she hears that a volunteer is under the weather, she even brings them her homemade cooking - she’s a good cook, too," said Werner.
"We’re lucky to have a dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer like Terry Mendenhall volunteering at Surrey Services," said Werner.
Visit Terry at Nana's Attic in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center and at the Surrey Thrift Shop at
