Sara Lee Langsam with Ashley

Twice a week, Sara Lee Langsam, 5-year America Reads-RSVP Volunteer, meets with Ashley Trabanino, 3rd grader at Aldan Elementary, in Mrs. Boyer's classroom.

Ms. Langsam enjoys the classic books such as Lassie, Peter Pan, Swiss Family Robinson and others. She allows her students to choose the book they would like to read.

Ms. Langsam volunteers 1:1 with four children, two on Tuesday and two on Thursday. "Working 1:1 with the children is delightful and very satisfying as I see the progress they make. Children blossom when they are given one-on-one attention," said Langsam.

On this day, Ashley chose to read Black Beauty. Ms. Langsam incorporates reading and writing after a chapter is read. "I like to read with Ms. Langsam because I love to read, and she is a nice teacher. I wish I could go with her everyday," said Ashley.

All America Reads volunteers are trained by our reading specialist, Sandy Brown. The next training will take place on Monday, September 13th at 11am, at Maris Grove. A light lunch will be served. You must RSVP to attend this training.

If you would like to help a child learn to read well, contact Lynn Shelton at 610-565-5563.
